Today around 7 am, the Menands Fire Department, along with several other departments were dispatched to a structure fire located at 412 Broadway. A working fire was dispatched within minutes of receiving the call. The Chief was notified that all residents were out of the house, however, there were 10-15 dogs still inside on the second floor.
Within 10 minutes of receiving the call, Menands Rescue 6 was on the scene and had water on the fire from the exterior of the building. This allowed the other departments to arrive and transition their way to an interior attack. Once inside crews began to find the dogs and were able to bring them outside, members and Colonie EMS were waiting to perform life-saving actions on the dogs. While many of the dogs were saved, unfortunately, some did not survive.
One resident was transported to the hospital, there were no injuries to any members of the Fire Departments on the scene.
Today could not have been possible without the quick response from the membership of the Menands Fire Department and surrounding mutual aid departments.
We are always looking for new members, if you have the desire to help keep your community safe, we ask you to please reach out to your local volunteer fire department.
